The Heart of Katatsumuri
“Katatsumuri” means "SNAIL," a creature that carries its home wherever it goes.
This simple idea became the soul of our guesthouse: that home is not only a place,
but a feeling we can nurture within ourselves.
Nestled in the quiet coastal town of Shiogama in Japan’s Tohoku region, away from the typical tourist crowds, Guesthouse Katatsumuri was created as a space to slow down, reconnect, and experience the gentle warmth of Japanese simplicity. Inspired by the wabi-sabi philosophy — finding beauty in imperfection and transience — every corner invites you to breathe deeply, rest fully, and simply be.
Whether you’re traveling, creating, or simply pausing for a while,
we welcome you to make Katatsumuri your home on the journey.

Shared Moments
When the day slows and the lamps glow,
Katatsumuri becomes a space for shared moments where travelers gather around for meaningful conversations.
People come and go, bringing their own stories and perspectives, creating a quiet flow of connection.
Whether we talk about travel, dreams, or life itself, what matters most is presence: being together, here and now.

Look Around
Katatsumuri sits in the heart of Shiogama, a peaceful coastal town where everyday life flows at a gentle pace.
Here, old shrines stand among cherry trees, the harbor hums softly with fishing boats, and sushi masters prepare the freshest catch of the day.
A short ride away lies Matsushima, one of Japan’s most scenic bays, close by for those looking for outdoor activities; Forest Adventureland is a must visit. Beyond that, the mountain temple of Yamadera offers a place of quiet reflection and one of the most stunning panoramic views of the Tohoku area.
Whether you’re exploring the streets, tasting local sake, or simply watching the tide roll in, every path invites you to slow down, look around, and feel at home in the moment.
